It took me a while to decide to ship my horse Ebro to Spain. There were so many reasons not to do it. It's expensive. The cost of shipping Ebro, first from Virginia to Arizona and now to Spain, exceeds his monetary value. I'm not even sure I'll have a whole lot of time to ride. It isn't practical. Where would I keep him? I made a real effort to sell him or lease him but I just could not find the perfect arrangement soon enough. Ultimately I think it was meant to be. Anyone who knows me well knows that I am not a spiritual person. But, just like Paulo Coelho describes how the universe conspires to make your dreams come true in his book, The Alchemist, I am beginning to believe in "listening" for the signs from the universe telling me which road to take, how to proceed when confronted with a decision, when to abandon comfort and security for absolute adventure. The Ebro river is one of 4 major rivers in Spain. And Ebro is the name of a random horse I bought when I lived in Richmond, Virginia for 9 months. I looked at about 5 different horses for sale one weekend. I just connected with this one and his name happened to be Ebro. Who the hell names a horse Ebro? I had to google the name to learn it's meaning when I bought him. At the time, if someone told me that I would be moving my family to Spain with my horse named Ebro within the next 3 years... I would have said he or she was insane.

Barcelona, here we come.

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
-Robert Frost, 1920
